What is IP Rating?

The IP “Ingress Protection” is an international classification system that measures the effective sealing enclosures of electrical equipment against the intrusion of foreign objects such as tools, dust, fingers and of moisture, as outlined in EN60529.

 This classification system uses the letters IP followed by two or three numbers.
 An “x” is used for one of the digits if there is only one type of protection; for example IPX4 which measures moisture resistance only.
